Weekend Update

Oh man it has been a busy weekend. We started the weekend early by taking the dogs to the vet for their 2nd rabies vaccination and microchips. The state of Hawaii has a VERY strict policy for bringing animals into the state. Hawaii is rabies free, and they want to stay that way, so they require very specific steps to be followed before you can bring your pet into the state. If you don't follow the steps or bring the correct documentation, your pet will be quarantined for up to 120 days! If you DO follow all the steps and bring the correct documentation, you can apply for a direct release of your pet at the airport. So we are working with a contact from a vet in Kahului, Maui and following all steps - with the goal being both of our dogs and paperwork passing inspection when we arrive in Kahului and sent on our way. I am very optimistic that we can complete the process without our dogs having to be quarantined. So far, it looks like it will take about 6 months for us to get our dogs ready. That probably seems crazy to a lot of people, to go to such lengths for dogs. If we didn't have Maddie and Lucy, we would probably already be over in Maui. But if you are a dog person, you get it. There is simply NO way I could leave without our dogs. It is not an option!

So...their first vet visit was 1 month ago - at that visit they recieved a general checkup and rabies vaccine. When we took them back on Thursday, they got their 2nd rabies vaccine and microchips (the vaccines have to be given no less than 30 days apart, per Hawaii pet quarantine rules).

They were very excited to ride in the truck. Less excited when the realized the vet was the destination. But they did great! Now we go back in 30 days to get their blood test drawn and sent to a lab in Kansas. Such a process.

Friday I worked till 2 and then we hit the road for Idaho Falls.

While now there are fields and hills in my view, there will soon be palm trees and sand.

 Most of my family lives over there, so we were going to see them and also to take a load of stuff to my mom and step-dad. It takes a long time to get rid of almost everything you own! My mom and step-dad are troopers and very graciously accepted all the junk we threw their way. One of the highlights of the weekend was getting to see this guy:

We also got to see my other nephew and niece, Jason and Jill, but I didn't get any pictures! Some aunt! Sorry guys - next time for sure!!

Anyway, we just got home a couple of hours ago and although I had a great weekend, I am more than ready to crawl into bed with Brant and watch a movie. Busy week coming up.

Time to hit the hay.
