Lava

We drove to La Perouse Bay this weekend. At La Perouse you can see where lava from past Haleakala eruptions meet the ocean. It's not a beach to lay out and work on your tan, but the contrast of sharp, dark, lava rock and deep blue ocean is spectacular.

It took awhile to get there from our side of the island.

We turned off of main roads and onto the narrow road running down the coast. Finally we saw some ocean.

But we were not there yet. More driving. We drove past peoples homes bordering this ocean. Blows my mind. Can't imagine living there.

Then the road went up into lava fields and the ocean disappeared.

Lava everywhere.

And then, finally, the ocean again.
